Chivi, Zimbabwe** – On January 22, 2025, the Chivi Growth Point will come alive as community members gather for a significant belated commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The event, to be held at the Better Schools Program Hall, is organized by the East West Management Institute in collaboration with the Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe, the Legal Resources Foundation, and Restless Development, under the auspices of the USAID-funded Citizen Engagement for Accountability Activity. The day will feature a series of impactful activities, including a keynote address from a Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development representative. Attendees can expect valuable insights as the Legal Resources Foundation discusses constitutional, regional, and international provisions regarding GBV, focusing on implementing the Domestic Violence Act. Additionally, the Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe (WCOZ) will provide an update on progress made in combating violence against women and girls, while also addressing critical gaps that require attention in Zimbabwe. This year’s commemorations will operate under the theme “Towards 30 Years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action,” emphasizing the need for sustained dialogue and commitment to improving the lives of women and girls in the country. Participants will have a unique opportunity to engage in discussions and share their perspectives on effective strategies to eliminate violence against women and girls as the nation looks toward 2025 and beyond. The organizers encourage communities to participate in the conversation and contribute to creating a safer, more equitable future for everyone.
